The Faculty of Law is one of the most intensively developing faculties at Samara State University. Higher legal education has a long history in Samara (former Kuibyshev). Since 1930 the expert-lawyers were trained at Samara branches of Saratov Legal Institute and later Moscow Legal Institute. After the revival of Samara State University in 1969, the training of lawyers started at the Faculty of Humanities. In 1975 first specialists in Law graduated. The Faculty of Law was established at SSU in 1976.
Today the Faculty of Law is one of the most in-demand faculties, the leading school of legal education and research in Samara region.
Among our highly qualified academic staff there are ten full professors and over 50 candidates of Law.

The faculty of Psychology was established in 1998, although the educational programme in Psychology was introduced in 1989.
Our academic staff consists of seven doctor and twenty three candidates of sciences including leading scientists and specialists from Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Three principles of our teaching staff are professionalism, precision and democratism.
The Faculty of Chemistry

The Faculty of Chemistry was established at Samara State University in 1970 as a section of Chemical-Biological Department. Since 1980 it was reorganized as an independent faculty. At present, the Faculty of Chemistry is a major centre of chemical sciences in the Volga region.
Today the faculty comprises four Departments representing contemporary branches of Chemistry and offers wide variety of majors.

The history of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics began in 1969. The founder of the faculty was a famous Russian mathematician, prof. Stepan P. Pulkin (1907-1980). Prof. Viktor M. Klimkin, honored worker of higher education of Russia, a well-known specialist in Functional Analysis, had been at the head of the faculty for 20 years. He was followed by prof. Vladimir I. Astafiev, a graduate of Moscow State University, who was the dean of the faculty from 2000 till 2010.
The faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics has been following the traditions of the leading scientific schools of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Voronezh and Saratov State Universities. Today the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics is a large scientific and research centre in the Volga region.
The Faculty of Philology

The Faculty of Philology is one of the first in Samara State University. The formation of the university began with the History and Philology Department in 1918. After the revival of the university in 1969, the Faculty of Philology has been continuing its work being one of the basic and today it is one of the biggest in Samara State University. More than one thousand students are studying at the faculty. The highly qualified academic staff includes fourteen professors, doctors of philology and education, forty six associate professors, candidates of philology and education.

The Faculty of Biology and Chemistry was established in 1970. The history of the faculty is closely connected with the name of Dr., Professor L.F. Mavrinskaya who was the founder of the first Department – the Department of Zoology. John P. Mozgovoy, the senior lecturer, was the first dean of the Chemistry and Biology faculty; he contributed greatly to the development of the faculty.
Today the faculty of Biology continues and develops the traditions of its founders. Fourteen doctors of sciences and professors, nineteen candidates of sciences and senior lecturers, honoured workers of science, full and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences teach at the faculty.
The Faculty of Physics

The Faculty was founded in 1969. Professor A.D. Ershov was the first dean and the head of the Department of Physics. The Faculty has modern material, technical resources, and a highly qualified teaching staff. Forty-seven lecturers are on the staff at the faculty, and most of them are candidates and doctors of sciences.
The Faculty fruitfully cooperates with the leading academic, scientific and research organizations: Physical and Mathematical Institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Joint Institute of Nuclear Research (Dubna), Scientific-Research Institute of Nuclear Physics of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Institute of Metallophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ioffe Physical Technical Institute (St. Petersburg), Frantsevich Institute for Problems of Materials Science (Ukraine), Institute of Solid State Physics and Institute of Radio Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Centre for Quantum Technologies (National University of Durban, South African Republic).

Most historians choose their scientific path under influence of their natural and high-minded interest in the past. So academicians understand young people who opt for historical sciences every year, and are sure that this stream is an ever-living source for interest to the past.
The Faculty of History of Samara State University is a community of scholars who aim to understand the past and endeavor to introduce students to the process of historical thinking.
The Faculty of History originated in the faculty of Humanities (1969) of Samara State University, which was divided in 1976 into three faculties: Philology, Law and History.

The Faculty of Sociology of Samara State University was established 20 years ago. The history of the faculty dates back to 1989 when the Department of Applied Sociology was opened at the Faculty of History at Kuibyshev State University. In 1993 the Department was reformed into the Faculty of Sociology. Today the Faculty of Sociology of Samara State University is widely known for its innovative approach to both teaching and research in the Volga Region and Russia as well.
The teaching staff is undoubtedly the keystone of success of the faculty. At present it consists of nine professors, thirty nine assistant professors and over forty lecturers with various degrees. All of them are highly qualified professionals devoted to their work and democratic to their students.
